Remember Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk?

Remember Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk?

Known simply as Melanie, she had a fantastic voice. How ironic that as a follower of Meher Baba, an Indian mystic and spiritual master who declared publicly in 1954 that he was the Avatar of the age and lived his life in self-imposed silence, her voice never totally caught the ears of the American public.

Meher Baba

Meher Baba launched a crusade . . . to break down all religious barriers, destroy materialism, and "amalgamate all creeds into a common element of love." His teachings influenced Melanie's music, especially her signature album, Candles in the Rain.

  1. I remember Melanie! She is still making fantastic music. ANd still does Lay Down.

She now leaves out the part that says Meher Baba lives again.

On her new album she sings a song that is inspired by Amma, the hugging saint.

  2. Aadiahh: Thank you. I liked Melanie, and I have not heard her recent recordings. I'll check them out. I could never understand why the country did not go gaga over her voice. Thanks again.

  3. No, no. Not Melanie Griffith. This wonderful lady is a singer who is still quite popular from the Woodstock era, but to my mind did not get the accolades she deserved.
