Happy Halloween

As you know, Halloween is an annual holiday observed on October 31, primarily in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. What you might not know is Halloween was formerly known as All Hallows' Eve when ancient pagan Celts held a ritual feast for Samhain (lord of the dead). It then became a Christian festival in 834 AD when Pope Gregory III declared it All Saints' Day and it was incorporated into the calendar. While it has roots in both a Celtic festival and a Christian holiday, today it is largely a secular celebration.

Halloween is a time for trick-or-treating, costume wearing, and carving jack-o'-lanterns. Kids go on ghost tours, attend bonfires, go apple bobbing, and visit haunted mansions - and sometimes commit pranks. It is truly great fun telling ghost stories or other frightening tales, and watching horror films as a family. Even adults attend costume parties.

Whatever your celebration, I wish all my followers a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!

Be safe.

  7. Happy Halloween to you, too. Did you notice that I just seem to miss these "big" events on my blog? People go ghosty or pumpkin carving and I still stick with my music Saturday. I am not sure what that is exactly. Maybe if I had kids and costumes and trick or treating it would be different. Hmmmm. Oh dear. It might turn into a mom blog that revolved around subjects like poop. I've been to some of those. I think I have deviated from the topic at hand. Anyway, happy All Hallows Eve or Halloween or Whatever. Be nice to the ghosties and goblins who drop in for candy. Otherwise they might teepee your house.

  22. Mitzi: Probably not, but I don't hear too many folks talk about it, and I know many have never heard the term. I first got interested in the holiday after reading The Legend of Sleepy Hollow many years ago.
