Want to Experience a Great Time?

Give something away. Anything. Every once in a while, my wife and I give things away just for fun. Making people happy makes us happy.

Give it a try. It need not be money. It can be a pencil or an old pair of shoes. It can be a kind word, or a chair. Give someone a book. Hand a child a balloon or a lollypop. Even a smile works. It is fun!

If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one.” Mother Theresa

  1. I completely agree with you JJ. We feel always better when we give anything away that is useful for someone else. And, as you mention, it need not be money. In fact, sometimes I think if I give colther or food is better than money, because we know exactely how it will be used.

  2. FanaticoUm: And it's not always money people need. Sometimes, they need kindness to keep going.

  3. I have done that! It feels sooo good. And just recently someone gave something to me! My artist friend in the Netherlands gave me THREE of his paintings!!! I was thrilled!

JJ thanks of commenting on my last post. One question, though--just what does "Hmm" mean???

  7. Most definitely.. I remember giving advice to someone who was hesitant in buying a chair.. I met her outside and told her what I thought.. She was appreciative...
Its amazing, if u stand in line how many people help each other, it just takes one person to say something and a chain reaction happens...
Its 'funny' that people don't expect others to speak up. I noticed one person was talking outloud wondering where something was, well I opened my mouth ( as usual) and told them where it was and they eyebrow raise was amazing.. You would of thought I told them they had won the lottery.. they walked away in shock but managed to mumble a 'thank you'.... Kindness does feel good on both ends.

  8. When I read your post title, I thought I was going to be reading graffiti on a Montana public toilet wall. Ha

Seriously, I know what you mean. It's a 2-way win. Make someone happy and lighten your load.

  9. A nice reminder. It IS a lot of fun to do stuff like this. And fun to see what happens once you start the chain reaction that enevitably occurs.

  10. I just got home from another day of cleaning out my office. I am having fun with bequests of various stuff to my colleagues. My little fountain with the plastic mermaids went to Judith. My treasured copy of the Thai civil and commercial code went to Bill. Others have been invited to take cartoons and quotations from my office door. Fun memories going to new homes.

  11. I am very happy to see that my friends agree. I knew you would.

Manzi: After I typed in the title, I posted the wrong article. The Montana toilet post is coming soon.

  12. What an utterly fantastic idea. I had fun participating in the teen book drop this year, leaving a young adult book in a random place for a reader to give a new home.

  14. Erin: I am sorry for the delayed response. I had a three-day Blogger problem. Thank you, and I am happy you are a giver!

A-M: I give away everything, and I have a sister who keeps everything for sentimental reasons. Am I not sentimental?
