If I Were King......

Fish with oil inside, caught recently off the coast of Florida.

If I Were King......

If I were king, I would hope Shakespeare was wrong.

I would hope I would not let greed cloud my judgment.

I don't think it would.

If I were king, I would put my subjects before me.

I would hope I would care for them like my own children.

I think I would.

If I were king, we might still experience tragedy as a nation.

I would hope it would be my tragedy too.

I know it would.

I will never be king, but if I were,

I would let my subjects know the truth.

I would not tell them anything but the truth.

I will never be king.

  3. Tummetott: Only human beings could treat our world like this.

Katherine: Thank you for the nomination. I promise I will never seek the Midas touch. The seas mean more to me than gold.

  4. U r right, only humans could do this.. Is the word human beings the right word to describe man? The word human makes me think of compassion, understanding...and the photo of that dead fish tells me : greed, disregard, unintelligent thinking....

  5. Your comment on teachers...: I have two friends who teach either K or K-1... That age is so magical.. They have such trust and are always asking questions... and the things little kids say are something...My friends say the kids at that age are so willing to learn...I loved working that age when I was an aide... I do agree w/u on the college age... then again, I think any age is good to teach- h.s. may be hard but I think its because h.s. kids are testing the teachers.. teachers just need to know how to get around the smartassness of teens..

  6. KBF: "greed, disregard, unintelligent thinking...." Yup. And it has disappeared from the media.

  7. KBF: On teachers... It is a HUGE responsibility. They all have such impressionable minds, and we have no right to impress the wrong things upon them.

  8. If you are an Obama fan you won't appreciate this comment, but all I can hear buzzing in my head is his statement during the oil crisis ~ while it was still shooting into the Gulf ~ that he would feel safe eating the fish. He was encouraging us to feel good about eating the oil coated fish and other seafood. It made me angry then and it makes me angry now. As the proverbial "king" he needed to have put his foot up some BP Corporate ass when that problem wasn't solved within a week. That it stretched out for months is untenable. Very bad "king." It speaks volumes about the care he has for his subjects. I know he talks a great game, but actions speak louder. Again, if I pissed you off, sorry, but he dropped the ball here big-time. "I would eat the fish." Yeah. Sure. Right. Whatever. Let them eat cake. Bah Humbug.

Oh, and don't forget to vote.

  9. What gets me is that the media seems to have forgotten the oil spill!!!! All of a sudden, it didn't happen - oil almost gone - bacteria got more than thought!

As for teaching, and this is directed to Kalei, it is not the K0 or K1 children who push: it is the parents. College is easier because it is NOT about the parents, but only about the student. Student fails, oh, well. Pay and try again. Student fails in a school, it must be a bad teacher.

I digress from JJ's blog post, though: I enjoy being peasant. Leave me peasant. Life is simpler, easier, and I can still control the little domain I actually have. Why try to control other people? It would only serve to frustrate me....Leave me peasant!

  10. Very touching post. Thanks for sharing the picture. We haven't heard anything about the impact of the oil spill in a while. The impact on the ecosystem has to be ongoing. :(

  12. It is, indeed, a terrible image. It really irritates me that the issue has disappeared. Scary world we live in.
