Rock of Ages

I don't remember "Rock of Ages" hitting the theaters in the USA, but while I was traveling recently, I had an opportunity to see it and I have my own opinion, which differs from most of the movie critics. I think the critics missed one important concept - everbody with me loved it, including me.

"Rock of Ages" is the love story of a small-town girl and a big city boy, but Tom Cruise, of whom I am not a fan, was outstanding. So is the rest of the cast. I did not recognize many of the actors, and to watch it, one must have a young, modern mindset, but if you are a music lover, it is a must-see production. If you find the sound track, mail it to me and I'll reimburse you twice the price!

The movie is cheesy and long, and the critics hated it. They used terms like rotten, iron lung, plodding mess, disgusting, and unbearable. I thought it was terrific! This movie is fun, unless of course you have done nothing other than tend your garden for the last twenty years.

If you are 40+ and tend to be negative about what you see in today's world, but would love to feel like 25 again for two hours, this movie will do it. At least it did for me.

  1. Did not see the movie, we saw the play off-braodway and enjoyed it.

Critics often pan movies that the general public loves and love movies that the general public hates. How many DVD's of "The ENglish Patient" were sold? I'm going to guess not very many.

  3. I do love music--particularly rock 'n roll and its offshoots--and have an open mind on Cruise. It's definitely on our see list.

  8. Looks like a great cast .... one exception, I don't like Cruse either.
I did not see this movie and I won't be seeing it. That kind of music is too noisy for the thymus and it leaves me weak. Some people are genetically stronger and can survive loud music.
