Fit to be Tied!

Lately, I have been inundated with advertisements appearing on my blog and interfering with the posting process. Whenever I attempt to post, I get pop up ads about Chinese girls hungry for dates or teens looking for boyfriends. When I post replies to comments, Blogger is underlining key words and linking them to ads unrelated to my posts. I get dozens of “ads not from this site” comments. I am about ready to dump the whole blogging thing.

Am I the only one getting this annoying material? Does anyone know how to opt out or prevent it?

  1. are u pretty good at emptying your spam box? either from blogger or your email? gmail has ad settings where u can block out ads on the ads attached to the email... i've been deleting/blocking and so far it works.

    1. KBF: I am pretty good at that. Since your response, I might have found the solution. I'll keep you posted.

    2. I had that problem, too. I ran an adware application, and it pretty much cleaned up the problem. My pet peeve was the ones that had sound and would start playing every time I went to a web site.

  2. When I agreed in setting to allow advertising on my blog site (with the thought of making a bit of money from any sales made by that company from anyone who connected to them from my blogspot),I got odd ads from companies that my post merely alluded to with my choice of words. I didn't like it. I stopped the advertising option. I'm not sure this is what you're referring to,but what you said did remind me of that irritating time.

    1. Linda: That is possible. I will check my settings. It is horrible. I remember agreeing to ads related to my posts, but I have no interest in dating! Thank you. I will try it.

    2. usually those ads that claim to help promote I don't believe.. if its too good of a deal, then I steer clear especially if its an offer on the internet... if its too good, it really isn't..

  3. How annoying. I don't have that problem, but there are scams on my blogger stats. The blogger system gets annoying in different ways. Google drives me nuts sometimes. I hope you won't give up.

    1. Julia: I just noticed that the ads are coming from something called "Solid Savings Plugin." Apparently, it is akin to a virus that is included in upgrades of browsers like Internet Explorer. When you upgrade, they ask a series of questions as to whether you wish to download some helpful programs. In reality, they don't help at all. They actually flood your websites with zillions of ads amounting to spam. I am attempting to remove those programs now. I'll keep you posted.

    2. Thanks for letting me know, JJ. I am the kind of person who tries to avoid upgrades because I don't trust the sources, so this is good to know. Thanks again.

  4. It sounds like you have figured this one out and that it doesn't have anything to do with blogger. I do want to say that I would miss you horribly, so I hope that you square this away!!!

  5. That would totally suck. No, I haven't had that kind of problem at all. I hope you get it fixed soon.

  6. Oh good gracious, JJ! This sounds awful. But... I must say I had to smile at this post- so it was successful as always!
It sounds like you are on to the solution. Good Luck!

  8. No, I haven't not yet anyway. I do keep dumping my spam though too. I sure hope you get whatever it is fixed, and let us know in case it happens to us too. I sure don't want you to drop blogging!

    1. Karen: I am also a heavy-duty spam blocker because I teach online college classes and can't afford a virus. This one, however, is not technically a virus, so it gets past the spam detectors. I will post about it. Thanks.

  9. I can understand. Lately I am getting ads in my comments. I happened every once in a while, but now I see it more frequently.

Luckily I check my comment often and delete them out the moment I see them. BUT YES, THEY DO ANNOY ME...

    Have a great weekend JJ.
